Two one-way valves allow the gas to flow into a circulation loop that chemically absorbs carbon dioxide. In this system, fresh gas from the anesthesia machine enters the breathing circuit downstream of the carbon dioxide absorber and upstream of the inspiratory one-way valve. The incoming fresh gas is mixed with the original gas in the circuit system, flows through the suction one-way valve, and flows through the reusable or disposable corrugated pipe to the Y-shaped pipe. The patient's exhaled gas flows through the other branch of the circulatory system (exhalation) and enters the storage bag through the expiratory one-way valve. By squeezing, positive pressure is created in the storage bag, forcing the collected gas through the carbon dioxide absorber. Since the fresh air flowing into the circuit system is much more than the gas consumed by the patient and the absorbent, it is necessary to install such a safety valve between the expiratory one-way valve and the carbon dioxide absorption canister. Excess gas can escape when the pressure exceeds a specified threshold. The absorption tank contains sodium carbonate lime (a mixture of sodium, potassium and calcium hydroxide) or barium hydroxide lime (a mixture of barium hydroxide, octahydrohydrate and calcium hydroxide).
